Meet Dr. Roger Kallal ...

Dr. Kallal credits his success to the combination of excellent schooling and post-graduate mentoring he received while working with a number of prominent figures in dentistry. Upon graduating from Northwestern University Dental School, he completed an internship at the Veterans Administration Research Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. His four-year residency at Northwestern University and Cook County Hospital allowed him to study under Orion Stuteville, DDS, MDS, MD. Once finished with residency, he joined the established practice of the late Benjamin Gans, DDS, and simultaneously became the first oral and maxillofacial surgeon to be asked to join the Orthodontic Department at Northwestern University Dental School.

Along with his mentor, H.T. Perry, DDS, MS, PhD, Dr. Kallal helped develop the first university sponsored curriculum in orthognathic surgery for the departments of orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. He held the position of full professor in clinical orthodontics from 1977 until 1999 when Northwestern University Dental School closed. Presently, he is Professor of Clinical Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, and maintains a full-time private practice.

Dr. Kallal takes a great deal of pride in his contributions to the advancement of oral and maxillofacial surgery through his role as educator of beginning orthodontists and oral surgeons, and the publication of numerous professional articles on the diagnosis and treatment of dentofacial deformities. He is grateful for the many invitations to lecture across Brazil and Europe. During the past fifteen years he has lectured and performed surgery at the Centrinho Cleft Lip and Palate Rehabilitation Center in Bauru, Brazil. In 1984, he received the LeFort Medal from the Brazilian College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons for his contribution to the specialty in Brazil.

However, his greatest passion remains his exercise of the surgical skills he has developed and practiced for over thirty years. During this period, he has established long-term relationships with area dentists and orthodontists by working cooperatively in the development of treatment strategies specific to the individual patient, including orthognathic surgery, dental implant surgery, and extractions.

Dr. Kallal currently holds staff appointments at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Hinsdale Hospital, and Ingalls Memorial Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and was a Board Examiner from 1991-1996. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
