-Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. -DDS Northwestern University Dental School, Chicago, Illinois, 1961. -Surgical Residency: Northwestern University Dental School/Cook County Hospital, Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Kallal credits his success to the combination of excellent schooling and post-graduate mentoring he received while working with a number of prominent figures in dentistry. Upon graduating from Northwestern University Dental School, he completed an internship at the Veterans Administration Research Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. His four-year residency at Northwestern University and Cook County Hospital allowed him to study under Orion Stuteville, DDS, MDS, MD. Once finished with residency, he joined the established practice of the late Benjamin Gans, DDS, and simultaneously became the first oral and maxillofacial surgeon to be asked to join the Orthodontic Department at Northwestern University Dental School. Along with his mentor, H.T. Perry, DDS, MS, PhD, Dr. Kallal helped develop the first university sponsored curriculum in orthognathic surgery for the departments of orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. He held the position of full professor in clinical orthodontics from 1977 until 1999 when Northwestern University Dental School closed. Presently, he is Professor of Clinical Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, and maintains a full-time private practice.
